　　The Result of a Promise

　　At the beginning of the new term, the father said to his son，“I will buy you a car if you pass the final examination(期终考试). ”

　　But the son failed in the final examination again. The father was angry. He said，“What were you doing all this term?

　　The son answered，“I was learning how to drive a car. ”

　　The grandfather was beating his grandson for his playing with fire in the yard(院子里). The boy’s father saw this and got worried about his son. So he took a stick and began to beat himself. The grandfather was surprised and asked,“Why are you beating yourself?”

　　The boy’s father said，“You are beating my son, so I am beating your son。”

　　A Poor Cook

　　Some children were making a cake. The teacher said to Lily, “Lily, would you go to check(检查)the cake? Just put a knife into it, and if it comes out clean，then the cake is ready。”

　　After about ten minutes Lily came back. “What took you so long?” the teacher asked。

　　“Well,” said Lily, “I put a knife into the cake and it came out so clean that I put all the other dirty knives into it。”
