  Walk for Hunger

It‘s so hot today that everyone wants to get a cool water shower. But today we have something. more important thing to do, Walk forHunger. Walk for Hunger always begins on the first Sunday of May,which is an activity aiming at collecting money for hungry people. This activity is for people in all ages. It’s a kind of public welfare, because every step we walk today is going to become money for the poor kids who don’t have enough food to eat. The first Walk was held in 1969. The 20-mile Walk occurs annually on the first Sunday in May and weaves through Boston, Brookline, Newton, Watertown and Cambridge, and includes entertainment and free snacks along the way。

Early in the morning my mom and I come to Chenery. We are going tothe activity with the kids in chine[D1]. Wow, this is so fun! We aregoing to walk along the Charles River, enjoying the beautiful SCENERY, across the river and come to Down Town Crossing, then walk toward and come to Chinatown. The whole distance of this is twenty miles. But we will only walk for ten miles, since we are too young to finish all. Ten miles, same as 16 kilometers, that is already hard work for us even though. I had never walked so far by foot! Amy and I are the only fifth graders but we like this activity anyway。

At first, we have a lot of energy. We run along the roads and streets and kick the tennis ball back and forth. There are many stops on the way. When you feel tired out, another stop comes and there are many people standing, handing you water and snacks. There are mini hamburgers, fruits, and hot dogs. Everything is prepared for us. We even don’t need to prepare lunch or water. People are wearing cartoon clothes and give you stickers while you are walking. When you arrive at a rest stop, volunteers, usually middle or high school students will say “Great job!” or “You are wonderful!”to encourage you. I can see the boards around, there is “you’re the best”, “you can do it”, and “hungry kids thank you” on them. When I see these, I don’t feel tired anymore, and these can make people feel good all the time。

And along the way, we meet all kinds of people. Some of them wear traditional new England costume, and wear funny make up. They are very glad to take pictures with you or joke with you. We can see many different landscape that we didn’t see on vehicles. We had never imagined we can walk so far! To my surprise, I didn’t feel that exhausted as I have thought。

Finally we arrive the destination, Boston Common, where many people are there already。

“Yeah, we are here finally!” I sit down on the lawn as soon as I get there because I can’t walk anymore. I get a chocolate ice cream (certainly free for us) and finish it in one minute, although I hate chocolate. “Ah, I wonder how much money we have earned today,” I say with sweat all over my body。

Even though I am very tired, I still like this activity, because we help others working by ourselves. Did you walk today? I am really proud of myself。
